Medical Emergencies occur in dental offices on a daily basis. Dentists and their staffs have an ethical and medicolegal obligation to be able to recognize and appropriately respond to these emergencies. This course will review the prevention, diagnosis and management of common medical emergencies in the dental office. Course content is appropriate for the entire dental team and fulfills the Oregon Board of Dentistry's licensure requirements for medical emergencies training.

Learning Objectives

1. Be able to determine what emergency equipment is appropriate for your office to have available for the management of medical emergencies.
2. Develop a knowledge base within the entire dental team to allow them to develop an emergency response plan appropriate for their office.
3. Be able to review the medical history and recognize which patients are at risk to develop specific medical emergencies.
4. Understand the signs and symptoms of common medical emergencies and develop a rational approach to their management in the dental setting.

Get to know your Speakers:

Dr. Beadnell and Kupfer practice together at Sunset Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery and are both Board Certified by the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons. They lecture frequently to various dental study clubs on the subject of management of medical emergencies in a dental office.
