How ADHA Helped Me Achieve My Goals: A Journey from Clinic Back to the Classroom

Speakers: Lesley Harbison, RDH, EPDH, MS

In Lesely's words: Goals and dreams change as we go through life. I’ve set goals for myself and then watched as they morphed and evolved. In this presentation I will discuss how being a member of ADHA has helped me attain my goals and dream even bigger! I will also be sharing the latest news from our national organization.  On my journey back to the classroom, I conducted original research regarding the educational preparedness of dental hygienist treating the geriatric population. Join me as I share this insightful information and what further research should be conducted.

Lesley Harbison, RDH, EPDH, MS has been practicing dental hygiene for almost 20 years. Throughout Lesley’s career she has enjoyed exploring the variations a dental hygiene career can provide. She worked for almost 10 years in a periodontal practice, established a direct access practice focused on geriatric care, and practiced as a public health dental hygienist in a state sealant program.  Education has always been a passionate goal for Lesley. In 2016 she returned to school to advance her dental hygiene knowledge and career. She earned her MS at Idaho State University and in 2018 became a faculty member at Pacific University. Lesley’s professional interests include increasing access to care, the geriatric population, ethics and empathy in dental hygiene, and advancing the dental hygiene profession.  Lesley is a proud member of the American Dental Hygienists’ Association. She is currently serving as the Oregon Dental Hygienists’ Association president. In addition, Lesley loves to encourage her students to be active members of ADHA and serves as the SADHA student advisor at Pacific University.
