Education Requirement Changed For Expanded Practice Permit Pathway 1 Application

In 2011 Senate Bill 738 amended the Oregon Dental Practice Act to change the education requirement for the expanded practice permit Pathway 1 application to 40 hours of continuing education in topics chosen by the applicant which are related to clinical dental hygiene or public health sponsored by continuing education providers approved by the Board. Prior to this, the Oregon Board of Dentistry had adopted a rule that specified that the education requirement included courses in general medicine and physical diagnosis; Pharmacology; Oral pathology; Patient management and psychology; and Jurisprudence relating to unsupervised practice with limited access patients. Passage of this bill required the Oregon Board of Dentistry to repeal this rule because it now conflicted with the law.
