Infection Control Review and What's New

A short review of the history of Infection Control, current guidelines and references for Infection Control Standards, and a look at the future of Infection Control.  This course will discuss the 2003 Infection Control Standards and the 2016 Summary of Infection Prevention Practices in Dental Settings which includes administrative guidelines, clinic guidelines, and checklists.  Last but not least, this class will include where to find guidelines and references.

Learning Objectives:

  • Know what PPE is and how do we put it on
  • Know what kind of disinfectant to use and how do we wipe down counters and equipment
  • Know what water testing is and if it is required
  • Know what Infection Control is required by the State of Oregon Dental Practice Act and where is it found
  • Know where to find Infection Control Guidelines

About the Speaker

Juanita Simpson , EPDH, BS, LCDR (Ret), USPHS

Juanita Simpson, EPDH, BS, LCDR (Ret), USPHS.  She started speaking on Dental Infection Control Guidelines in 2003 and since then has presented locally, regionally, and nationally on Dental Infection Control.  This last year was the first time that the OSAP/DALE Foundation offered an Infection Control Certificate program.  To receive this certificate, Juanita was required to attend the OSAP Infection Control Bootcamp in January 2022, afterwards through the Dale Foundation she was required to complete a series of interactive Infection Control Modules which included post-tests, after completion of the before mentioned requirements -she was required to pass with a high score a Dale Foundation comprehensive Infection Control Test. 

Juanita has twenty-seven years of clinical dental hygiene experience.  She is currently a national consultant for Oral Health in Head Start and serves on the Board of Directors for the Oregon Dental Hygienists’ Association.
